First-Ever Cuban Pavilion at Folklorama a Huge Success

More than 11,000 people passed through the Cuban pavilion at Winnipeg's Folklorama during the week of August 5 to 11, making it one of the most popular pavilions in the annual celebration of ethnic cultures. They sampled Cuban cuisine prepared under the supervision of a five-star Cuban chef and enjoyed Cuban music and dances, including nightly performances by the popular Cuban band Grupo Moncada.

Despite the small number of Cubans living in Winnipeg (less than 30), more than 160 volunteers worked to make the pavilion a success, an expression of the deep support for Cuba amongst the Canadian population. The enthusiastic reception of the first-ever Cuban pavilion by both the public and by Folklorama officials indicates that it is likely to be a crowd favourite for many years to come.
