Hollywood Protests Growth of Canadian Film Industry
During the past several years, the U.S. film companies have increasingly transferred the production of films out of the United States and into lower cost locations, such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, in order to maximize their profits. As a result, film studios are springing up in Canada to meet the soaring demand, while those in California are empty.
A number of high profile protests have been organized in recent months to protest this trend, with movie stars demanding action from the U.S. government to take protectionist trade measures to halt the exodus of film industry jobs to Canada.
There have been no such protests as Hollywood systematically destroys the film industries in numerous countries around the world, stealing the most talented artists and appropriating and distorting the culture of other lands. Nor have these movie stars organized rallies to protest Hollywood acting as a willing instrument for the imposition of U.S. imperialist culture on the peoples of the world.
