The Results of the First Round of Elections in Brazil

Luiz "Lula" da Silva (Workers Party): 46.4%

Josee Serra (Brazilian Social Democratic Party): 24%

Anthony Garotinho (Socialist Party of Brazil): 17%

Ciro Gomes (Popular Socialist Party): 12%

Immediately following the release of the first round results, Ciro Gomes announced that he is now supporting the candidacy of Lula and it is expected that large numbers of members of the Socialist Party will also vote for Lula in the final round of voting, which takes place on October 27. The Brazilian Social Democratic Party is the incumbent party and is Brazil's party of neo-liberalism, much like the Labour Party of Britain. It is expected to continue to control a majority of the seats in the National Assembly.
