Winnipeg Rally Opposes War Preparations Against Iraq

A rally of at least 250 people was held in Winnipeg on October 26 to oppose American preparations for a new war against Iraq. The rally was addressed by several speakers who expressed their opposition to the plans of the Bush administration to invade Iraq and install a puppet regime, as it has done in Afghanistan.

October 26 was declared an international day of protest against the U.S. war preparations, and hundreds of thousands of people participated in actions in the United States, Canada, Britain and other countries. A demonstration of over 200,000 people in Washington was hailed by organizers as the largest anti-war rally in the United States since the Vietnam War. The ad-hoc committee that organized the Winnipeg rally has pledged to continue to organize popular resistance to American war plans and to any participation by Canada in a war against Iraq.

Another Winnipeg rally and march has been called for November 17 as part of a cross-Canada day of actions against war.
